Healthy nails are the result of good nutrition, consistent hydration and a patient routine. Many of our guests ask, "what can I do at home?" Here are a few essentials that extend both the life of your nails and your gel applications.
Daily: Hydration and Protection
Hand cream is more important than you think. Every contact with water dries the nail plate a little — especially after dishwashing and cleaning. Dry nails crack; polish stops adhering.
- Use latex or nitrile gloves for dishwashing and cleaning.
- Apply hand cream especially to the cuticle area and around the nail edge.
- Prefer glycerin-based, fragrance-free soaps to liquid soaps.
Weekly: Cuticle Oil
The cuticle is the living tissue closest to the "root" of the nail plate. The more flexible and hydrated this area is, the stronger the new nail growth will be.
We recommend a jojoba or sweet almond–based cuticle oil 2–3 times a week. Evenings, before sleeping, are ideal.
Monthly: Gentle Shape Correction
When filing your nails at home, avoid back-and-forth motions. Move in one direction, gently. Otherwise the layers of the nail open up and brittleness sets in.
A healthy nail is the gift of patient care.
Between Studio Visits
In the first few days after a gel polish or strengthening application:
- Avoid hot showers and saunas.
- Don't use your nails as tools (peeling labels, opening boxes, etc.).
- Stay away from sharp contact on glossy surfaces.
These small touches comfortably extend time between appointments to 4 weeks.
