How Long Does Gel Polish Last? Tips to Make It Last Longer

How long gel polish typically lasts, which factors determine its durability, and how to keep your application looking fresh for weeks.

Applied correctly and cared for well, gel polish lasts two to three weeks on average. That window varies from person to person, though — everything from how fast your nails grow to your daily habits affects the result. Here's the clear answer to the question our guests ask most.

What Determines Durability

Same product, same hands — different outcomes. Because longevity isn't only about the polish:

  • Prep: Properly buffing and dehydrating the nail surface is the most critical step for adhesion.
  • Nail growth rate: Fast-growing nails show regrowth at the base sooner.
  • Daily contact: Frequent water, detergents and heat shorten the life of the polish.
  • Application thickness: Thick layers lift more easily; thin, balanced layers last longer.

How to Make It Last

A few small habits comfortably extend the time between appointments:

  • Wear gloves for dishwashing and cleaning.
  • Apply cuticle oil a few times a day; dry edges trigger lifting.
  • Don't use your nails as tools (peeling labels, opening boxes).
  • Avoid very hot water and saunas for the first 24 hours.

The secret to longevity isn't an expensive product — it's proper prep and patient care.

When to Refresh

When you see 2–3 mm of regrowth at the base, or thinning at the tips, it's time for a refresh. Removing gel professionally, without forcing the nail, is far safer for the nail plate than peeling it off yourself.

You'll find our gel polish, gel strengthening and extension options in our current price list. A manicure is included with every service.
